DQC Report Asks “How Are States Measuring Student Growth Under ESSA?”

“Almost every state is rating schools in part on student growth in test-scores under the Every Student Succeeds Act,” writes Education Week’s Klein. However according to research from the Data Quality Campaign, student growth “doesn’t look the same everywhere and the differences matter to parents and policymakers.” The new DQC report— “Growth Data: It Matters, and It’s Complicated”— finds that the most popular metric is a “student growth percentile” that “essentially tells parents and policymakers how schools served different kids who started at about the same academic level.”
