Hawaii Non-Profit Seeks Financial Data from Ed Department

Suevon Lee reports for Honolulu Civil Beat that the nonprofit Education Institute of Hawaii has started a petition “in an attempt to convince the state Department of Education to turn over financial data the nonprofit says is key to building a fiscal transparency tool for the public benefit.” However, Hawaii’s Department of Education responded with a letter from, Superintendent Christina Kishimoto “expressing disappointment in the effort” and noting that the Department is already “building [a financial management system] to comply with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.”
