Interim Reviews of California and New York’s Draft ESSA plans;

The Collaborative for Student Success and Bellwether Education Partners have published interim reviews of both California and New York’s draft ESSA plans. These interim reviews, which mirror the first round of reviews conducted by more than 30 education experts in June 2017, encourages California and New York, as well as other states submitting in September, to put forth accountability plans that go beyond mere compliance with federal law. Of the nine elements evaluated, California received 4 checks (out of a possible 5) in only one category (Standards and Assessments), while New York received 4 checks in two categories (Academic Progress and Supporting Schools).
