Education Week released a policy snapshot covering the recently-released sets of proposed regulations from the Dept. of Education on assessments under ESSA. Comments on the regulations focused on the Innovative Assessment Pilot, which allows some states to use local tests for accountability purposes. The piece highlighted comments submitted by various education groups including the Council of Chief State School Officers, American Federation of Teachers, and the Foundation for Excellence in Education. Some groups were supportive of the proposal, but were primarily concerned with the time required to develop the testing systems.
