KnowledgeWorks released “A Better Approach to Assessment,” which includes new resources for states that are developing new testing programs and requirements under ESSA. An infographic highlights the four critical opportunities states have when “developing student-centered assessment systems” that have the “potential to increase engagement, provide real-time feedback on student learning, and improve equitable outcomes across our education system.” According to KnowledgeWorks, states have the opportunity to value growth, prioritize readiness, emphasize knowledge and skills, and involve district parents when approaching new assessment options. The group also released a policy guide for states who are considering new testing models under the new Innovative Assessment Pilot, which highlighted 15 different designs that can be implemented under the flexibility of ESSA.
