Expectations Under ESSA for English Language Learners
October 18, 2016
Under ESSA, schools will be required to make significant changes for English language learners as reported by Education Dive. States will need to “create a uniform process” when identifying English learners to “assign them services” and then transition them into a “general education system.” States will also need to use standardized testing requirements to track EL growth and accountability. Under ESSA, new expectations will also be implemented to assess “proficiency among the EL population.” Finally, under the new act “subgroup accountability” will require major reporting changes for schools.
