CCSSO and Aspen Institute Release Eight Equity Priorities for States

October 13, 2016

The Council of Chief State School Officers and the Aspen Institute Education and Society Program released a framework for states as they work to find “equity in education” under ESSA. The release outlined eight equity priorities for states to implement in order to improve equal opportunities for all students. CCSSO’s Executive Director Chris Minnich commented that ESSA gives states the opportunity to examine their “current systems comprehensively,” and find the “best ways to meet the needs of every student.” The paper encourages states to “think holistically” about ESSA, and “advance a comprehensive strategy for creating educational equity.”
