FairTest Details Ways States Can Construct New Assessment Systems

FairTest released a report detailing ways states can construct new assessment systems under ESSA to “replace testing overkill.” The piece identified the “Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority” pilot program that allows up to seven states to implement new assessment systems that will replace existing standardized tests.” FairTest proposed a new model to “maximize high-quality assessment within ESSA’s constraints” which focuses on “classroom-based evidence.” The report’s proposed changes align with ESSA’s accountability requirements and work to fix achievement gaps.
