Six Ways Schools Can Improve Their Accountability Systems

David Osborne, director at the Progressive Policy Institute, wrote an opinion piece in US News and World Report citing six ways that schools can improve their accountability systems under ESSA. Osborne argued that “if we want 21st century schools,” districts must be held “accountable to 21st century standards.” Osborne also called for states to “encourage districts and authorizers to negotiate more specific performance measures” in order to focus on the individual missions of various schools.
