Educator Improvement Funding Provisions are a Step in the Right Direction
July 13, 2016
California teacher T.D. Flenaugh writes in the Huffington Post that educator improvement funding provisions in ESSA are a “huge step in the right direction” when it comes to improving children’s education. With nearly $2 billion earmarked for teacher improvement, educators will now be able to attend peer assessments, class support groups, scheduled observation, feedback sessions, and professional development workshops. Flenaugh credits the need for such provisions to education’s “ever-changing” nature, and applauds increased teacher flexibility under the rule. She writes that current teaching assessments do not allow for enough peer communication, and opportunity for improvement is often missed.
