Dept. of Ed Approves Massachusetts’ ESSA Plan
September 21, 2017
The U.S. Dept. of Education approved Massachusetts’ ESSA plan. Secretary Betsy DeVos “praised the plan’s details on turning around low-performing schools and for emphasizing the share of high school students who complete accelerated courses.” She also said, “I continue to be heartened by the ways in which states have embraced the flexibility afforded to them under ESSA,” and also “praised the plan as a ‘testament’ to the work of the late Commissioner of Education Mitchell Chester, who died earlier this year.”
