Proposed Increase on Tracking and Reporting for English Learners

September 23, 2016

Education Week and Politico reported on the Dept. of Education’s guidance for English learners under ESSA. In addition to highlighting the allowance of Title III funds to help expand these programs, Education Week noted that states must track the performance of former EL students to “determine whether they are performing academically on par with their never-EL peers or whether gaps in achievement remain.” Politico cited the Dept.’s guidance that states must establish “entrance and exit procedures” for EL students and track and report on their progress.
