In an interview with the Providence Journal, Mary Ann Snider, the Rhode Island Department of Education’s deputy commissioner for teaching and learning, discussed how ESSA brings back local control. Regarding state interventions in low-performing schools, “We don’t have a lot of evidence that a state stepping in makes a big difference. RIDE won’t be intervening. We will let the districts handle it.”
