Report Card on Iowa Schools Shows Improvement Over Last Year

January 30, 2020

A school report card released by the Iowa Department of Education shows schools statewide are improving compared to last year. The online tool was designed to meet the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act and also includes “components of a state report card that was required under Iowa law.” According to the report card, fewer schools—148 out of 1,295 schools—were identified as needing support and improvement this year because “many schools that were identified based on how they performed during the 2017-18 school year improved.” Among other factors, the report card takes into account “student participation in college entrance exams and scores in college entrance exams” as well as “participation in postsecondary or advanced coursework.”
