Chad Aldeman, a principal at Bellwether Education, authored a new report, “Grading Schools: How States Should Define ‘School Quality’ Under the Every Student Succeeds Act.” Aldeman argues that accountability systems are best for states to “signal what it values and how schools should be working to improve.” He outlines a “roadmap” for states to utilize ESSA, and how to proactively use test scores to better their schools. If districts hadve low scores, Aldeman suggests that schools “rely on holistic, off on-site reviews” from professional assessors to garner the best recommendations to improve their systems.
