ECS Publishes Guide on “Well-Rounded Education”
June 29, 2016
The Education Commission of the States published a guide that details “what constitutes a well-rounded education, how [states] ensure students across their state have access to it, and how, if at all, the U.S. Department of Education plans to hold their state accountable to it.” ECS notes that, unlike NCLB, ESSA “covers a wide selection of academic subjects, including the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences, in addition to English language arts and mathematics.” The guide focuses on the “block grant” as a funding incentive to providing a well-rounded education and urges LEAs to “prioritize the distribution of funds to schools with the greatest need.”
