“Edfintech” Industry Applauds ESSA’s Pilot Program
July 24, 2016
At the recent Future of Education Finance Summit, representatives from the “edfintech” industry – an “intersection of education, finance and technology” – spoke with education funding experts and nonprofit representatives about how their products could help their schools comply with ESSA’s financial reporting requirements, according to Education Week. The Dept. of Education is working with schools to test new technologies, and find ways to share the results with other schools. Attendees commended ESSA for including a pilot program for up to 50 schools to implement “student-based” budgeting, which would allow schools to share data more readily and finance for stronger programs. ESSA’s financial reporting requirements were seen by attendees as a vehicle to promote teaching technology “effectiveness” without getting distracted by its cost.
