Federal Condition of Education Report Focuses on Homeless Students and their Academic Achievement

According to the latest federal Condition of Education report, about “1.3 million American students [without] a safe, stable place to sleep at night” who, under ESSA, will receive additional focus. The law requires that “all states will have to report not just the number of homeless students, but their academic achievement and graduation rates as a separate student group.” Through ESSA plans, states can create “significantly more accountability for schools in supporting their homeless students.”
