Civil and Human Rights Groups Oppose ESSA Regulation Rollback
March 3, 2017
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and 30 other organizations sent a letter to U.S. Senators opposing the possible rolling back of accountability regulations. The groups argued these regulations will help schools “faithfully implement the law” and “meet their legal obligations to historically marginalized groups of students including students of color, students with disabilities, and students who are English learners, immigrants, girls, Native American, LGBTQ or low-income.” The letter also reminded Senators of the lengthy regulation process and the amount of time and energy organizations spent submitting comments and recommendations.
