Secretary John King and PA’s Secretary Pedro Rivera Meet to Discuss ESSA

U.S. Secretary of Education John King, and Pennsylvania Education Secretary Pedro Rivera met with advocates to discuss potential school reforms that comply with ESSA. Secretary King talked significantly about the law’s ability to tackle equity issues stating, “The way the law is structured, it’s really a high degree of state and local flexibility with very clear, strong civil rights guardrails. I think the ongoing conversation for the country has to be, how do we make sure that state and district flexibility is used for the sake of equity and excellence in every school?”
