If Committee Cannot Agree, Dept. of Education Will Write Its Own Rules on Assessments and SNS

Education Week reports that if the Neg Reg committee cannot come to an agreement after this week’s session, the Dept. of Education will then write its own rules on assessments and SNS. They also highlight several of the specifically contentious points holding up consensus including, the definition of cognitive disabilities, alternative testing waivers, and the definition of a nationally recognized test. Politico noted that once the Dept. of Education redrafts the rules – with recommendations from the Neg Reg included or not – they have to then show members of Congress the proposed rules and allow them to comment no less than two weeks before publishing them. Read more here.
