West Virginia’s proposed ESSA plan, “is seeing significant changes and public praise and criticism ahead of its scheduled submission to the U.S. Education Department next month.”
Washington is accepting public comment on the state’s ESSA plan through Sept. 5.
Last week, Iowa Dept. of Education Director Ryan Wise announced that the third draft of Iowa’s ESSA plan is available for public review and comment.
The Kentucky Department of Education is seeking feedback on its plan for public education in the state. Kentucky’s plan is scheduled to be submitted Sept. 18.

The Indiana Department of Education announced today the publication of Indiana’s ESSA plan.
The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development has submitted their final draft of the state plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act. Public comment will be accepted until September 15th.
The Minnesota Dept. of Education is “hitting the road this month” for a series of public meetings regarding the state’s ESSA plan.
Now that Pennsylvania has released its draft plan, Pennsylvanians have until August 31 to provide comments.
Under ESSA, the West Virginia Dept. of Education proposed “making out-of-school suspensions, other than those resulting from the highest level of student offenses, count against public schools’ attendance rates.” Commentary on the proposed change will be accepted until August 30.
