Nevada Sees Statewide Gains
September 16, 2019
“More than half of Nevada schools are meeting or exceeding performance standards, according to data released late Sunday by the Nevada Department of Education,” reports Jackie Valley for the Nevada Independent. “Education officials heralded the 2019 Nevada School Performance Framework results as more evidence that the state’s frequently criticized public school system is making gains despite ongoing challenges.” Roughly 53% of schools got three, four, or five stars (“adequate,” “commendable,” or “superior,” respectively), as compared to 49% last year. “The framework that determines the star ratings is aligned with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and uses multiple metrics to ascertain a school’s overall performance.”
