Local MN District Leveraging ESSA to Improve Special Ed Math Curriculum

Theresa Bourke reports about a local district’s effort to improve their special ed math curricula as part of their continuous improvement plan under ESSA. The district “began the initiative last year because data showed special education students—especially at the elementary and middle school levels—were not achieving consecutive years of high progress in math.” So, the Paul Bunyan Education Cooperative and Sourcewell “teamed together with a program called Carnegie Learning to provide staff development training to special education teachers.” The district’s full continuous improvement plan will officially come before the school board next month.
