NY Sen. Griffo Asks Sec. of Ed King to Reconsider Proposed Regulation
July 18, 2016
State Senator Joseph A. Griffo called on U.S. Secretary of Education John King to reconsider a proposed regulation that would “punish school districts for having too many students opt-out of standardized tests.” He cites that this move contradicts ESSA which he argued should “empower states and, more importantly, local school districts to govern their own education systems.” The current regulations by the Dept. of Education require states to develop a way to hold school districts accountable if more than 5% of students fail to take any annual standardized tests.
