The Hill Responds to Dept. of Ed’s New Approach to Review State Plans
July 28, 2017
Sen. Patty Murray, D-WA, and Rep. Bobby Scott, D-VA, expressed concern about the U.S. Dept. of Education’s new approach to reviewing state ESSA plans. The two argue in a letter that, “The decision will result in inconsistent treatment of state agencies, leading to flawed implementation of our nation’s education law and harm to our nation’s most vulnerable students.” As reported by Education Week, Murray and Scott, who questioned whether this new policy violates the law, also “asked DeVos to justify this change in policy, as well as communications with Congress and others concerning it.”
