MD General Assembly Submits Education Accountability Bill
March 25, 2017
The Maryland Legislature submitted a bill that would allow the state’s Board of Education to “determine how schools should be rated to determine performance.” The bill would “force the state board to reduce the weight given to standardized testing” and “prohibit the state from turning a low-performing neighborhood school into a charter school.” The Maryland Board of Education opposes the measure, but the Maryland State Educators Association supports it. Gov. Hogan is expected to veto the measure, calling it “one of the most outrageous and irresponsible moves” taken by the State Legislature.
