Senator Kaine “Heavily Involved” with Career Technical Education Provisions in ESSA

July 22, 2016

As Education Week reports, Democratic Vice President nominee Senator Tim Kaine (VA-D) was heavily involved in the development of ESSA. Sen. Kaine introduced Career Technical Education provisions in the senate version of the bill, which later went on to list CTE as one of 17 components of a “well-rounded education.” Additional provisions within ESSA provide Title IV funding to “safe relationship” programs designed to educate students about sexual assault. Kaine was very supportive of these measures, which he tried to incorporate through similar language into a bill in 2015.
