Former 2018 Superintendent of the Year Dr. David Schuler argues that teaching students life skills like “creativity, flexibility and resilience” is more important than ever amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Citing the intent of the Every Student Succeeds Act to allow districts and schools to embrace “nontraditional instructional models,” Schuler says more programs and investment is needed in empowering school systems to educate children to “think critically, adapt quickly and collaborate effectively.”
