Rhode Island DOE Releases Star Rankings, Providence Schools Struggling
November 14, 2019
As part of the nationwide phase-in of the Every Student Succeeds Act, Rhode Island implemented a star rating system for its schools last year to help provide “a more holistic evaluation of individual schools than simply looking at test scores.” According to the ratings released by the Rhode Island Department of Education, “the numbers, called ‘accountability results,’ are dismal for Providence, where 17 schools released one star – the lowest ranking.” There were some improvements in Providence schools as a handful gained new stars this year. All in all, 22 schools received five stars, 49 received four stars, 134 received three, 59 received two, and 35 received one across the state.
