Real Clear Education Analyzes DC’s ESSA Plan
April 12, 2017
Real Clear Education took a deep dive into DC’s ESSA plan, noting that its ambitious and comes with substantial changes to the status quo. The article notes that the plan sets lofty goals for student performance, calling for 85 percent of students to score a “4” or higher on the PARCC test over the next 20 years. It also calls for 90 percent of students graduating high school within four years. (Only 65 percent of students satisfied that metric in 2014-15). But as RCE explains, one of the most interesting findings “was the way in which the District’s education leaders have set aside partisan fights and are committed to moving forward together to implement the plan.”
