CEP Asks Teacher Focus Group About ESSA

The Center on Education Policy conducted five elementary teacher focus groups covering various classroom issues including the implementation of ESSA. Educators from Delaware, Illinois, Utah, and Wisconsin participated in discussions during spring and summer of 2016 and mentioned concerns about the “high stakes of state testing” and the “prospect of being evaluated based on student scores.” A panel member also mentioned the fear that a principal’s career “may depend on the school’s test scores.”
