KY Dept. of Ed Focuses on Implementing ESSA with New Accountability System

The second meeting of the Kentucky Department of Education’s Accountability Steering Committee focused on how to implement ESSA with a new Kentucky accountability system last week. Participants agreed that Kentucky needs to get an accountability system right while trying to navigate both state and federal mandates. Stephanie Winkler of the Kentucky Education Association commented on this notion saying, “When you try to deal with federal regulations, and state regulations, and things get tripped up, and things don’t always turn out the way that you intend them to be, and you learn from those things and that’s what I think we’re trying to do.
