Following Per-Pupil Expenditure Data in Kentucky
July 13, 2020
This piece from the Bluegrass Institute takes a look at recently added per-pupil expenditure data on Kentucky’s school report cards. According to the analysis, there are errors within the data that lead to an inaccurate picture of how much each school is actually spending on students. Furthermore, because schools submit figures into a database, there is no way for the Kentucky Department of Education to confirm the validity of the figures. Under ESSA, “states are required to report school-level financial data beginning with the 2018-19 school year.” The think tank believes that with accurate numbers, schools may be able to get the additional funding they need to support students.
