Collaborative for Student Success and Bellwether Partner to Facilitate Independent Review of ESSA State Accountability Plans

Bellwether Education Partners and the Collaborative for Student Success have partnered to assemble a group of 30 experts to independently review ESSA plans that have been submitted to the Dept. of Education. The goal of the group is “to look at whether states are going beyond compliance with the law to really set up a system that will accomplish their visions for K-12 education.” The peer reviewers will rate the state’s plans on a nine-point scale – serving as an external check on the federal process, capturing the strengths and weaknesses of each state’s plan, and providing feedback to state policymakers and advocates interested in enhancing school quality in their communities.
